When we moved into our current house, it was wall to wall light cream-colored carpet - not exactly the best thing for a family with three large dogs, three cats and a backyard with no grass (so muddy feet were inevitable). We decided to rip out and replace the carpet with a nice looking and durable laminate floor starting in the main living areas. Over the next few years we completed an additional room or two at a time, mostly in the winter, as our outdoor projects and activities take over once the snow melts and there is no time left for indoor ones. We have lived here for four + years now, and we have finally finished removing all the carpet! Yippee! The last room on the list was our guest bedroom (which has very little to no animal traffic). We are looking at the possibility of reconfiguring the bedroom assignments and decided it was high time we brought this one up to snuff (just in case we need it sooner than later). :o)
Christopher is a big fan of "helping" with any project we are working on. He has his own little set of tools and knows how each of them work. He was very eager to get to work helping Daddy put down the padding and laminate once the new sub floor was in place - actually, I think he was more excited to "take over" the job! :o) Good thing we weren't in a hurry to get this one done!
Christopher was a good supervisor. He knew just how to motivate his workers and make sure things were going in the right place.
Here are some of the building guidelines Christopher recommends:1. Always read your directions and plan out where to put your boards.
2. Take accurate measurements before cutting.
3. Measure twice just to make sure.
4. Supervise the cutting of the boards outside to makes sure measurements are followed precisely.
5. Make sure your workers have boards in the correct orientation.
6. Make sure a qualified builder taps the boards into place.
7. As you go, inspect work carefully for flaws.
8. Always take pride in the completed job!
